2015 is already shaping up to be a year of prestigious awards and nominations for SDC Builders. Our continued commitment to delivering outstanding construction, technical innovation, sustainability and high performance has resulted in three LABC Building Excellence ‘Finalist Awards’, a Considerate Constructors National Site ‘Bronze Award Winner’ and a named finalist at the 2015 Building Awards for ‘Contractor of the Year’.
The first of our LABC finalist awards, for ‘Best Public Service Building’ was presented to the Flitwick Football Centre. SDC was appointed by Central Bedfordshire Council to construct and design in accordance with the Sport England and Football Foundation guidelines a steel framed state-of-the-art community sports pavilion. The facility includes players shower and changing facilities, a 120sq.m multi-functional hall ideal for business meetings, fitness classes and children’s parties, a senior football pitch with fenced perimeter, five junior sized football pitches, associated car parking, and cycle storage.
Another Central Bedfordshire Council scheme; Fairfield Park Lower School saw our second LABC finalist award for ‘Best Educational Building’. This project comprised the construction of a modern standalone Early Years Centre for pre-school children incorporating a multi-purpose space for school and community use, a contemporary kitchen area, office space, nursery room and external playground.
Our third and concluding LABC award went to the cutting-edge Jaguar Land Rover Tyre Store Extension. The extension comprised of steel frame, insulated roof panels, cladding system and housed an advance moveable racking storage system for up to 5000 tyres.
Further to the recognition received at the LABC Awards, SDC was presented a Considerate Constructors ‘Bronze Award’ for the construction and design of Babraham B930 Bioscience Building. The CC Scheme awards the most considerate sites for their contributions towards improving the image of construction using a meticulous approach to local neighbourhoods, the public, workforce, and the environment. SDC’s prize-winning project for Babraham Bioscience Technologies is a landmark building situated at the campus’s entrance and provides lab facilities for lease to organisations working in the field of biomedical research and related disciplines. The B930 Building includes laboratories and office/write-up space together with both a cafe and conference room facilities over 2,700sq.m of floor space. The project was successfully completed on time with minimal disruption to the occupied Babraham Research Campus.
Lastly, to The Building Awards; widely recognised as the sector’s most prestigious awards for excellence. The Contractor of the Year category was closely fought, with the judges impressed by the brilliance and quality of all three companies shortlisted. SDC was proud to be named a 2015 finalist at the awards and will continue to set the standard with strong leadership, good client engagement, flexibility and a robust safety culture.
