Structural Completion for SDC at Granta Park

Structural Completion for SDC at Granta Park

Published on:

SDC and BioMed Realty have reached a significant milestone in the construction of One Granta, celebrating the occasion with a topping-out ceremony. A longstanding tradition in the construction industry, the topping-out ceremony signifies the end of the vertical construction phase and the completion of the highest point of the structure. This particular ceremony for One Granta brought together key stakeholders, construction workers, and the design team to celebrate the achievement.

Once complete, One Granta will provide 125,000 sq ft of flexible lab and office space. The scheme has been designed to meet the highest WELL, BREEAM, and WiredScore standards with air source heat pumps and a rooftop PV array contributing to a 25% reduction in the structure's carbon emissions. Occupants of the building will also benefit from a full-length third-floor terrace with outstanding views of the surrounding park. Project developer, BioMed Realty, has signed the first prelet to Biotech company T-Therapeutics who will expand their current presence at Granta Park by occupying 25,000 sq ft of the new building.

The event began with a guided tour of the site, updating key stakeholders on the progress of the construction. Stopping on the second floor of the building, Carl Bennett, Director at SDC, noted the importance of the project in strengthening SDC's working relationship with BioMed Realty. Carl also expressed his thanks to the project team and gave an insight into the remaining construction works,

Vice President of Development for BioMed Realty's UK Market, Orestis Tzortzoglou, also addressed the crowd to express his gratitude to the team and project partners for their hard work and commitment in progressing the project. Mr. Tzortzoglou continued by highlighting the positive impact that One Granta will have,

The event ended as attendees were invited to sign the structural column (instead of placing the final beam) and leave their legacy on the building.

Shell and core construction of the building is scheduled for completion in Q3 of 2024.
