Special Projects

The Special Projects division has been delivering works of a smaller, more specialist nature since its establishment in 1992. This integral part of the wider company provides the ability to offer clients the skills and experience of a larger contractor, with a bespoke approach to projects typically ranging from £50,000 to £3,000,000. This division has consistently delivered over £25M turnover in recent years through design and build contracts and traditional forms of contract.

The success of Special Projects is underpinned by being fully integrated within the SDC Group. This ensures the same first class approach to safety, quality and to completing projects on time and budget. The team utilises the support of the in-house M&E and design team capabilities if required by a specific project. Working across a diverse range of sectors, the division’s reputation has evolved by forming strong repeat business partnerships with both private and public sector clients. Each project is delivered with a full understanding of the clients’ and their end users’ needs.

A large proportion of projects are undertaken within live environments and as a result of this, Special Projects has gained the expertise to ensure that client operations are maintained with minimal disturbance or interruption whilst the projects are being undertaken. The department has completed projects in a diverse range of sectors, including schools, colleges and universities; pharmaceutical research; commercial; automotive; leisure; retail and healthcare.

The Special Projects division is led by Gary Wykes (Board Director) and Graham Staughton (Special Projects Manager) who have a combined history of over 70 years at SDC. The team includes dedicated Contracts Managers, Site Managers, Foremen and Quantity Surveyors, along with highly skilled directly employed Bricklayers, Carpenters and experienced Site Operatives.
